NTPC plans to accelerate the pace of adopting electric vehicles (EVs) in India by supporting e-mobility with the required charging infrastructure
The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a slew of vehicle aggregators to develop and utilise electric vehicles charging infrastructure. An official statement released by the firm states that the agreement is about the development and effective utilisation of charging infrastructure for various vehicle segments.
The MoU was signed with aggregators like Ola, Lithium, Shuttl, Bikxie, Bounce, Electrie and Zoom Car.
EV charging facilities
NTPC is also in talks with the administrations of cities and states across India to set up charging facilities for public transport. Till date, it has been able to get Jabalpur, Navi Mumbai and Bhopal onboard. The company plans to cater to the charging needs of the entire range of EVs, ranging from electric buses to electric 2/3-wheelers, by developing associated e-mobility ecosystem across the country.
NTPC partners
NTPC had earlier partnered with Indian Oil, Hindustan Petroleum and DMRC to work on the development of public charging infrastructure. The aim of the partnership was to create an expansive network of charging infrastructure for EVs.
E-mobility
The company has been a support to the government of India’s e-mobility initiative. It has been pushing for a faster adoption of electric vehicles across the country. NTPC, in its official statement, said that e-mobility is currently at a nascent stage and the stakeholders are required to work in close coordination to enable a rapid transition to electric mobility.
NTPC officially entered the electric vehicles segment in 2018 by launching its first vehicle charging station in Vishakhapatnam. India’s push for EVs has been adopted by states like Telangana, Maharashtra and many more.
