An Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) petrol bunk in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh became home to a charging station meant for electric vehicles. It is the first of many that the state-owned power corporation NTPC and Indian Oil Corporation plans to install over the coming years.
The charging station has four points that consumers can access. All points have options for both fast and slow charging, conforming to Bharat DC 001 and Bharat AC 001 standards.
A push for the project
To speed up the process of getting more charging stations, NTPC has entered agreements with several fuel retailers as well as state government entities like Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
Late last year, in November 2018, the corporation also signed a memorandum of understanding with several vehicle aggregators, including Ola, Zoom Car, Bounce and Shuttl.
The government is yet to arrive at a solid policy on electric vehicles. While several transport corporations are trying to shift to electric buses, the policy on private vehicles remains unclear. In June this year, Niti Aayog proposed only electric vehicles be sold after 2030 but the government stated that there are no deadlines.
