The AI chip giant has appointed former Intel government affairs chief Bruce Andrews to lead its policy engagement efforts as scrutiny over AI exports and China operations intensifies.
Nvidia has appointed veteran policy executive Bruce Andrews as its new Chief External Affairs Officer, strengthening its government affairs team as the company navigates increasing scrutiny over AI chip exports and its business ties with China.
Andrews confirmed his appointment in a LinkedIn post after reports emerged that he had joined the AI chip leader. Based in Washington, D.C., he will oversee Nvidia’s government relations efforts and report to the company’s General Counsel, Tim Teter.
The move comes at a critical time for Nvidia, which is working to maintain its influence in U.S. policy discussions surrounding artificial intelligence, semiconductor regulation, and trade restrictions. The company has faced growing attention from policymakers due to export controls that limit sales of its most advanced AI chips to China.
Before joining Nvidia, Andrews served as Intel’s head of government affairs under former CEO Pat Gelsinger. He also held a senior role at the U.S. Department of Commerce during the Obama administration, bringing extensive experience in both public policy and the semiconductor industry.
In his LinkedIn announcement, Andrews said he was excited to help Nvidia drive the next phase of AI innovation and technological advancement.
Nvidia continues to advocate for access to the Chinese market, even as U.S. restrictions remain in place. While some lower-performance AI processors have received approval for sale in China, the company’s most advanced products are still subject to export controls.
CEO Jensen Huang has repeatedly argued that maintaining a presence in China is important for U.S. technology leadership and future growth. He has also indicated that China remains part of Nvidia’s long-term market strategy despite regulatory challenges.
The appointment highlights Nvidia’s focus on strengthening its engagement with policymakers as AI and semiconductor technologies become increasingly important to national and economic priorities.
