Wednesday, June 04, 2014: Semiconductor manufacturer NXP Semiconductors has unveiled its new high efficiency, compact driver IC for LED solutions. Dubbed the SSL5015/18, the driver complement’s the company’s GreenChip SSL family of products using an integrating MOSFET, support for lightning applications and up to 18W lamp power like TLED and PAR lamp shape. While it has been designed for Asia and Europe, the controller has also been optimised for functioning in the US and Japan.
The company now has four new reference boards to its NXP LED Driver Solutions Selection Guide. These are NXP’s cost-effective LED Driver Solutions that simplify lamp design using the right form factor in order to streamline the design-in process and to extend the reliability and lifetime.
The new controller brings a non-isolated and cost-effective solution along with a high lamp power factor (PF) that goes up to 0.9. In addition, NXP also provides an online design tool that allows engineers to tailor a demo board that suits their specific needs. The tool allows them to design the boards in less time and also brings the margin for error down through its simulation functionalities.
