Ola Gig Electric Scooter Debuts For Rs 39,999

Deliveries for the Ola Gig electric scooter are set to start in April 2025.

Ola has unveiled its first electric scooter geared toward the business-to-business (B2B) sector, named the Ola Gig. This new venture into the commercial electric vehicle market has led to the introduction of two models: the Gig and the Gig+. The launch price for the base model, the Gig, is set at Rs 39,999, while the more advanced model, the Gig+, is offered at Rs 49,999.

Designed specifically for commercial use, the Ola Gig sports a single-seat configuration, making it ideal for delivery personnel or business-related transportation. Additionally, the scooter features a large carrier at the rear, enhancing its utility for carrying various goods. Both variants are equipped with drum brakes and a telescopic front fork for improved ride handling.

The Ola Gig is powered by a modest 250-watt motor, achieving a top speed of 25kph, which conveniently places it in the non-registerable category of vehicles in India. This design choice directly positions the Gig as a competitor to the likes of the Yulu electric scooters, which are commonly seen in metropolitan areas across the country.

On the other hand, the Gig+ model comes with a significantly more potent 1.5kW motor, pushing the top speed up to 45kph, thus requiring registration for road use. Both the Gig and Gig+ models are fitted with a single removable 1.5kWh battery pack, which can be upgraded to two packs in the Gig+ for extended range. The company claims the Gig can travel up to 112km on a single charge, while the Gig+ can achieve between 81km and 157km, depending on the battery configuration.

Ola has implemented an app-based access system for starting the scooters and quick charging capabilities, although specific charging times have not been disclosed. Currently, Ola has only released digital renderings of the scooter, leaving other specifications like seat height, kerb weight, load capacity, and wheel sizes yet to be detailed.

The company has set an introductory price for the Gig models and anticipates starting deliveries by April 2025. This strategic move marks Ola’s significant step into the electric commercial vehicle market, aiming to cater to the growing demand for efficient and sustainable business transportation solutions.
