OLED Shipments Rise 19% Despite Weak Display Market in 2026 

Omdia forecasts strong OLED growth in notebooks and monitors even as overall large-area display shipments and revenue decline.

Large-area OLED display shipments are projected to grow 18.8% year over year (YoY) to 38.8 million units in 2026, even as the broader large-area display market weakens, according to Omdia’s Large-area Display Market Tracker. The growth is being driven primarily by rising adoption of OLED panels in notebook PCs and monitors, helping offset declines across the LCD segment.

Overall large-area display shipments, including LCDs and OLEDs, are forecast to decline 2.3% YoY to 916.9 million units in 2026. Omdia attributes the slowdown to rising memory and processor costs, geopolitical tensions, and growing macroeconomic uncertainty, particularly in the second half of the year. Large-area LCD shipments alone are expected to fall 3.0% YoY to 878.1 million units, while total display revenue is forecast to decline 1.7% to $69.9 billion.

Despite the softer market, OLED adoption in IT devices continues to accelerate. OLED notebook PC display shipments are expected to surge 66.0% YoY, while OLED monitor display shipments are forecast to increase 34.0%, reflecting growing demand for premium displays and expanded manufacturing capacity.

The shift is being supported by Korean display makers reallocating production from TV panels to IT displays. Manufacturers are increasing output at Gen 8.5 OLED fabrication plants for monitor applications, while Samsung Display and BOE are expected to begin mass production at their Gen 8.6 IT OLED fabs from mid-2026, focusing primarily on notebook PC OLED panels.

Meanwhile, the LCD TV market is seeing continued migration toward larger screen sizes. Shipments of TV displays below 65 inches are forecast to decline 5.9% YoY, whereas shipments of 65-inch-and-above panels are expected to grow 8.4%, helping support display revenues despite lower overall volumes.

The IT display market, however, is expected to remain under pressure. Omdia forecasts monitor display shipments to decline 1.8% YoY, while notebook PC and tablet display shipments are projected to fall 0.6% and 3.8%, respectively, as higher component costs push up device prices and weaken consumer demand.

According to Omdia, once TV brands complete their pull-forward purchases, panel procurement is expected to slow from the third quarter of 2026, leading to a 2.5% YoY decline in TV display shipments for the full year. Even so, the continued expansion of OLED in monitors and notebooks is expected to remain the brightest spot in the large-area display industry.
