Omega Seiki And Attero Launch Alliance For EV Battery Lifecycle Reuse

Omega Seiki has introduced more than 10,000 electric vehicles, with Attero concentrating on converting these batteries for energy storage and, eventually, other uses. They aim to deploy over 1 GWh of EV batteries in the next five years. Together, they intend to recycle more than 100 MWh of batteries within the next three to four years.

Omega Seiki Private Limited (OSPL) and Attero have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that represents a significant step forward for the electric vehicle (EV) and e-waste management industries. This agreement highlights both companies’ commitment to the complete lifecycle management of EV components and responsible battery recycling solutions. Omega Seiki has already deployed over 10,000 electric vehicles, and with this partnership, Attero will focus on repurposing these vehicles’ batteries for energy storage. The collaboration aims to deploy over 1 GWH of EV batteries in the next five years and recycle more than 100 MWh of batteries in the next 3-4 years, underlining their commitment to sustainable practices.

Attero’s facility, capable of processing 145,000 metric tons of E-Waste and 11,000 metric tons of battery waste annually, plans to increase its capacity to 15,000 metric tons by February 2024. This expansion is critical for addressing environmental issues stemming from the production and disposal of EV components. Attero, with over 45 granted global patents and more than 200 patent applications, is at the forefront of lithium-ion battery recycling and e-waste management.

OSPL is committed to sustainable practices, having converted its plants to use solar power and encouraging suppliers to adopt sustainable practices. The company recycles 100% of its waste, highlighting the importance of waste management in promoting sustainability.

Uday Narang, the founder and chairman of OSPL, emphasized the significance of waste management in the company’s pursuit of sustainability and environmental stewardship. The partnership with Attero is seen as a strategic move to advance EV technology and set industry standards in battery waste management.

The alliance between OSPL and Attero also aims to impact regions beyond India, including the ASEAN and African markets, with the goal of fostering a cleaner, greener future through sustainable practices and responsible e-waste management in the EV sector.

Nitin Gupta, CEO & Co-Founder of Attero, stressed the importance of sustainable lithium-ion battery recycling in India, given the rising EV production. Attero’s efficient recycling process, which extracts metals like cobalt and lithium carbonate with 98% efficiency, is part of its contribution to a carbon-positive circular economy. Gupta expressed enthusiasm for the partnership with Omega Seiki, believing it will significantly influence battery recycling and support a more sustainable society.

This collaboration between OSPL and Attero is a notable advancement in sustainable practices within the EV industry, combining their strengths to address global environmental challenges.
