CEO said that the success of OnePlus 6 sales shows as to why the Chinese firm has chosen India as the second global headquarters for its R&D centre
Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus has said that recently launched the flagship phone of the brand – OnePlus 6, has sold more than one million units in 22 days, since its launch. In a recent blog post, Lau confirmed that of US$ 1 billion revenue that the company has achieved in three years, Indian has contributed one-third.
India is the benchmark for creating successful global products, says Lau
Following the success rate from the sales of OnePlus 6 in India, Lau said that India has become the Chinese smartphone maker’s “benchmark for creating successful global products.” He added: “This young market is now set to become our second home ground, a centre for product innovation. Our new R&D centre in India is just the beginning.”
Earlier we had reported that OnePlus is all set to launch its second R&D centre in India, which will also be the second global headquarters of the company. The first global headquarters of the company is operational in Shenzhen, Guangdong. OnePlus launched its first R&D centre in India back in October 2015 when the smartphone maker joined hands with Foxconn and kick-started manufacturing its devices locally from Andhra Pradesh.
Lau added: “I am humbled to hear that OnePlus has emerged as the best-selling premium smartphone in India in just three years in the market. As thrilled as I am by this early validation, it has also led me to reflect on some of our memorable experiences in India.”
Amazon and Croma garnered higher sales for OnePlus 6 in India
Lau also said in the blog post that the global presence of OnePlus has also steadily expanded across 35 countries with the Chinese firm achieving a US$ 1 billion revenue mark in this year as well.
He added: “In India, we must acknowledge the contributions of several such long-standing partners who believed in our vision and understood our focus of being a customer-centric company even when we were a new entrant in the market. We truly value the role some of these partners like Amazon, Qualcomm and Croma have played over the last four years. We hope to continue to nurture these relationships in the years to come.”
