Pegatron is the third iPhone manufacturer in India after Foxconn and Wistron.
After two non-working days due to a fire incident Pegatron India resumes iPhone production in a phased manner on Wednesday.
Pegatron operates 10 assembly lines out of which one caught fire last Sunday, late evening. Around six machines are expected to be damaged.
Cause of the fire has been identified as a short circuit in the charging rack. A switch on the charging rack was accidently left open, causing the short circuit. Foam used as protection against the scratches caught fire due to the short circuit sparks.
The incident has been described as a minor fire incident causing no injuries. No major operational or financial impacts were observed. The plant is said to be fully functional barring the one assembly line that caught fire.
Pegatron India is based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. They assemble various versions of Apple’s iPhone excluding the latest one iPhone 15.
