Mercedes-Benz Unveils its Third EV EQE SUV in India

  • The luxury automaker’s ambitious plan includes introducing three to four new electric cars in India over the next 12 to 18 months.
  • Industry speculation suggests that Mercedes-Benz may bring the all-electric version of its popular GLC SUV, the EQC.

The renowned luxury car manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz is ready to launch the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV in the Indian automobile market, marking the brand’s third electric vehicle (EV) entry into the country.

This follows Mercedes-Benz India’s August announcement, revealing their plan to introduce three to four new electric cars within the next 12 to 18 months, with the EQE SUV leading the charge. While the specific models of the remaining three electric cars remain undisclosed, industry speculation hints at the possibility of Mercedes-Benz introducing the all-electric variant of the popular GLC SUV, known as the EQC, given the substantial success of its internal combustion engine-powered counterpart in India.

Mercedes-Benz India aims to create a quarter of its car sales in India within the next three years, a remarkable leap from the current figure, which hovers between 3% and 4%. The company has strategically launched the EQS sedan, EQB SUV, and the upcoming EQE SUV as integral components of its electrification strategy to achieve this ambitious goal.

The EQE SUV plans to go head-to-head with formidable competitors like the BMW iX and Audi Q8 e-tron, both recently launched in India with price tags well above ₹1 crore. Anticipate the Mercedes-Benz EQE to be priced competitively within this segment.

For Indian consumers seeking a luxury EV experience, Mercedes-Benz already offers the EQB and EQS models, starting at ₹77.50 lakh (ex-showroom) and ₹1.59 crore (ex-showroom), respectively. With the impending launch of the EQE electric SUV, Mercedes-Benz is set to fortify its position in the Indian luxury EV market, standing strong against competitors Audi, BMW, and Volvo, all of whom have introduced their own EV offerings to the discerning Indian audience.
