Rajasthan reaches 500 MW of installed solar PV capacity

A latest report from Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation Ltd revealed that the state has successfully commissioned 510 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity. A majority of this capacity was added in 2012-13 fiscal year. The capacity reached 314 MW in 2012-13 from a 5MW installed in 2010-11. The new capacity was added through the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM).\

According to a Solar Server report, RESolve Energy Consultants noted that “Rajasthan has been the go-to destination for developers interested in setting up solar PV projects under the first phase of the JNNSM accounting for about 70 per cent of the total capacity installed in the state.”

The RESolve Energy Consultants have observed that this capacity has come in three phases. The first phase was included projects added under the migration and RPSSGP program. The second phase was initiated in late 2011 and lasted till 2013 under JNNSM. The new capacity in 2013. The second phase came in late 2011 to early 2013 under the JNNSM, and new capacity added in 2013 has come through the REC/Open Access mechanism. RESolve states that developers are gaining confidence in commissioning projects through the REC mechanism.

The report also stated that the majority of capacity was installed in the Jodhpur district, with 293 MW. The second city in line is Jaisalmer with 94 MW installed, followed by Bikaner at 65.9 MW.
