Rashi- Restar JV Eyes USD100 Million Semiconductor Revenue

Rashi Peripherals and Japan’s Restar Corporation aim to accelerate semiconductor growth through local engineering, design capabilities and application-specific solutions for India’s automotive, consumer electronics and emerging technology sectors.

Rashi Semiconductor Solutions, a joint venture between Rashi Peripherals and Japan’s Restar Corporation, is targeting $100 million in revenue within 18 months, accelerating its earlier three-year timeline as it expands into semiconductor engineering and application-specific solutions for Indian manufacturers.

Announced in August 2026, the Bengaluru-headquartered venture is 74% owned by Rashi Peripherals and 26% by Restar. It aims to combine Rashi’s distribution network with Restar’s engineering expertise and product portfolio to serve automotive, consumer electronics, industrial robotics and other electronics applications.

“Currently, the contribution from the semiconductor vertical to our company is only 2-3%. However, with the joint venture, we are making it a separate company,” said Rajesh Goenka, Director and CEO of Rashi Peripherals. “Our aspiration is high; we want to hit $100 million in revenue within the first 1.5 years and further scale at an accelerated pace.”

Restar plans to transfer engineering capabilities to the Indian venture to help it move beyond conventional component distribution towards technology and design-oriented solutions. The Japanese company has about 4,500 employees, around one-third of whom are engineers, and a portfolio of more than 2,000 products, compared with 75 currently available through Rashi’s relevant business.

“Restar is an engineering-oriented company. We will transfer this engineering power to the joint venture to make it also a technology engineering-oriented company, which would help it differentiate from other Indian semiconductor distribution companies,” said Shigeru Iwata, senior management personnel at Restar Corporation.

The venture’s priorities include expanding its product portfolio, building design capabilities in India and onboarding Japanese manufacturers operating locally. It will initially target Japanese automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), Tier-1 suppliers and consumer electronics manufacturers, including air-conditioning companies.

Rashi Semiconductor Solutions has close to 80 customers, including electronics manufacturing services (EMS) providers, robotics companies, design firms and automotive manufacturers. It will use Rashi’s presence across 57 towns and its Bengaluru laboratory to develop application-specific prototypes.

The company has developed a semiconductor-based prototype to manage car headlights and is working on applications for IoT-enabled ceiling fans. Chips intended for autonomous driving are undergoing software training. Robotics, drones and other Internet of Things (IoT) applications are also among its target areas.

The venture aims to participate in India’s semiconductor growth through distribution, engineering support and application development rather than chip manufacturing.
