Wednesday, November 11, 2014: Rays Power, the solar power solutions provider said that it has inked a Rs 1,620 million contract to set up a 20 MW plant at Morbe dam in Raigad district, Maharashtra. The contract has been honoured by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC).
This plant would be set up as a first-ever solar project built on a dam. The work will reportedly be completed by 31 March next year.
Rahul Gupta, director at Rays Power said that the solar panels will cover the entire stretch of the dam barrier and the Morbe gravity dam with an earthen slope. He further added, “The other side of the wall will have a huge amount of water, so the construction has to be done in a way that it doesn’t puncture the wall. We also need to make sure that future maintenance is easy and the solar panels are not spoilt by salty water.”
Ray Power is India’s third largest company in terms of megawatts setup. It was set up back in 2009 and has currently recorded the turnover of Rs 5,000 million, which it further aims to raise to 10,000 million by the end of this fiscal year.
