Renesas Electronics has acquired software developer Pictorus in a move aimed at strengthening its embedded software development capabilities and expanding its Renesas 365 platform.
The acquisition is expected to improve software design workflows by combining Renesas’ semiconductor expertise with Pictorus’ software modelling and code-generation tools. This is expected to help engineers design, test and deploy embedded applications more efficiently.
Pictorus develops tools that enable engineers to visually model system behaviour and generate production-ready embedded software. Its platform supports modern embedded workflows across programming environments such as Rust, C/C++ and Python.
The platform also supports faster validation and debugging, helping developers reduce design complexity during early stages of embedded product development.
The acquisition is particularly relevant for sectors such as automotive, robotics and industrial equipment, where software-driven systems are becoming increasingly important.
“Pictorus’ capabilities will help advance system design on Renesas 365 by combining architectural modelling with behavioural simulation,” said Leigh Gawne, Vice President of R&D and Digital Industries at Renesas.
The move comes as embedded product development increasingly relies on integrated hardware-software workflows, with growing demand for faster prototyping, simulation and shorter design cycles.
