The new plant will enhance Sahasra semiconductor plant with cutting-edge packaging and testing operations for NAND flash memory.
Sahasra, an Indian electronics company, has announced plans to invest Rs 350 crore over the next three years to bolster its Make in India initiative and establish a semiconductor packaging facility. This investment makes it one of the first Indian companies to engage in semiconductor packaging within this fiscal year.
The group is investing Rs 350 crores to establish a new facility in Bhiwadi, enhancing its semiconductor plant with cutting-edge packaging and testing operations for NAND flash memory, a non-volatile storage technology. The investment plan includes significant funds for machinery for electronic assembly and infrastructure development within the plant.
Amrit Manwani, the Chairman of Sahasra Group, highlighted that this initiative aligns with the Indian government’s Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which the company received in 2020. This makes Sahasra the country’s first private company to embark on such a venture in semiconductor packaging and testing.
The company maintains a partnership with a Taiwanese company for memory drives and was the sole supplier of memory drives for Sony in India, Africa, and Southeast Asia. Following Sony’s withdrawal in 2021, Sahasra pivoted to market similar products under its own brand, integrating microcontrollers into their offerings.
In addition to semiconductor manufacturing, Sahasra Electronics has recently partnered with French Thomson Computing. This collaboration aims to boost Thomson’s manufacturing capabilities in India, producing a range of laptops and tablets tailored to meet the needs of various sectors including banking, financial services, education, and public sectors.
‘Sahasra’ was established in the year 2000 and has grown to become an electronic company with a presence in India and beyond. The group includes six businesses that cover a range of electronic solutions, encompassing design, manufacturing, and distribution. The company operates four manufacturing plants located in the National Capital Region (NCR) of India and one in Rwanda, Africa.
