In a milestone move, Samsung SDI becomes a direct battery supplier to Mercedes-Benz, signaling deeper collaboration as premium automakers race to secure next-generation EV technology.
Samsung SDI will supply electric vehicle batteries to Mercedes-Benz for the first time, marking a new partnership with the global premium automaker.
Samsung SDI said Thursday it had signed a multi-year contract with Mercedes-Benz for the supply of next-generation EV batteries at the Andaz Seoul Gangnam in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul. While the exact value of the contract was not disclosed, industry sources estimate the deal to be worth more than 10 trillion won ($7.2 billion) over a supply period of at least around five years.
The signing ceremony was attended by key officials from both companies, including Samsung SDI CEO Choi Joo-sun and Cho Han-je, executive vice president and head of the global sales team at the Strategic Marketing Office, along with Mercedes-Benz Chairman Ola Källenius, Chief Technology Officer Jörg Burzer, and Mercedes-Benz Korea CEO Mathias Vaitl.
