Samsung Semiconductor India Research Starts ‘Chip Design for High School’ Program

In partnership with IIT-Bengaluru and VLSI System Design, the program will have a significant impact on shaping India’s position in the global semiconductor ecosystem.

In an effort to foster early interest and proficiency in semiconductor design among high school students, Samsung Semiconductor India Research (SSIR), in partnership with IIIT-Bangalore and VLSI System Design has launched the “Chip Design for High School”. This program could have a significant impact on shaping India’s position in the global semiconductor ecosystem, claims researchers.

Focused on students from 6th to 12th standard, the program introduces young minds to semiconductor design, setting the stage for advanced learning in the future. Apart from that, the program aims to close the gap between academic knowledge and industry demands by integrating practical and futuristic skills into early education coupled with cultivating a pool of skilled talent ready to tackle challenges in the semiconductor sector, a field poised for significant growth.

The curriculum is thoughtfully crafted to provide students with a solid foundation in semiconductor design, AI integration, and practical learning experiences, paving the way for successful careers in this dynamic field. Over the course of eight weeks, participants will delve into essential topics such as fundamental physics, logic gates, and hands-on breadboard circuit assembly. With a focus on practical labs and capstone projects, this program equips students with vital chip design skills, preparing them for rewarding careers in India’s rapidly growing semiconductor industry.

By the end of the project, students will have acquired valuable knowledge in digital logic design, System-on-Chip (SoC) concepts, and Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools. They will also learn essential skills such as library cell characterization, CMOS inverter design, and SPICE simulation, equipping them with a comprehensive understanding of critical semiconductor design processes.
