Sony, Lenovo Sign Patent License Agreement For Virtual Reality Headsets

Lenovo can now use SIE’s patented PlayStation VR (PS VR) industrial design for the Lenovo Mirage Solo virtual reality headset

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), a global leader in interactive and digital entertainment, and technology company Lenovo have signed a two-year patent license agreement.

The agreement provides Lenovo with a license to use SIE’s patented PlayStation VR (PS VR) industrial design for the Lenovo Mirage Solo virtual reality headset.

Headquartered in San Mateo, California, SIE is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation and has global functions in California, London and Tokyo.

Announcing that they have licensed the PS VR headset design to Lenovo, Riley Russell, Chief Legal Officer at SIE, said, “This agreement with Lenovo is a testament to the quality of PS VR’s design, as well as SIE’s commitment to creating great virtual reality experiences and helping the VR industry expand.”

Yao Li, vice president of Lenovo Consumer Tablets and Smart Devices Product and Business Management also expressed that Lenovo is pleased to partner with Sony.

This agreement will allow us to work together to greatly enhance the design sophistication and appeal of the rapidly expanding VR field, and is an outstanding example of how great consumer brands in the VR industry can work together to benefit the consumer VR market, Li noted.

Lenovo manufactures one of the world’s widest portfolios of connected products, including smartphones (Motorola), tablets, PCs (ThinkPad, Yoga, Lenovo Legion) and workstations as well as AR/VR devices and smart home/office solutions.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is responsible for the PlayStation brand and family of products and services.  The PlayStation family of products and services include PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 3, PlayStationStore, PlayStation Plus, PlayStation Video, PlayStation Music, PlayStation Now, PlayStation Vue and acclaimed PlayStation software titles from SIE Worldwide Studios.
