Non-binding memorandum aims to develop real-time monitoring solutions by combining edge sensing technology with energy sector expertise.
Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation and Saudi Aramco have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore a strategic collaboration focused on accelerating industrial AI capabilities, according to a joint statement released on Monday.
The partnership intends to combine Sony’s image-sensing and edge AI technologies with Aramco’s operational experience, industrial data, and infrastructure across complex real-world environments. Under the agreement, Aramco will contribute domain knowledge and test facilities, while Sony will provide its expertise in sensing and edge computing to build real-time situational monitoring solutions.
The two organisations plan to co-develop systems that improve situational awareness and response effectiveness within industrial operations, with an initial focus on energy and chemical processing facilities.
Key areas of focus for the collaboration include Industrial Monitoring, Rapid response and Video intelligence. By combining operational domain experience with hardware capabilities, the initiative aims to support multimodal understanding and speed up the development of next-generation industrial AI applications.
Yoshinobu Takanuki, chief strategy officer at Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation, noted that the convergence of sensing technologies and AI will play a vital role in driving innovation across industrial fields, expanding the scope of Sony’s vision-sensing tools.
Sami A Ajmi, senior vice president of digital and information technology at Aramco, added that combining operational data with Sony’s AI capabilities will deliver practical solutions to bolster operational resilience and advance industrial AI across multiple domains.
