India’s GaN semiconductor market is projected to grow from approximately $224 million in 2026 to nearly $1.88 billion by 2033
Hyderabad-based SpintronicsAI Semiconductors has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CSIR–Central Electronics Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CEERI) to accelerate the development of indigenous Gallium Nitride (GaN) semiconductor technologies in India.
Under the partnership, the two organisations will work on technology and design transfer, with a focus on moving GaN technologies and know-how from research and development into an industry-led semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem.
The collaboration will also assess the feasibility of establishing an indigenous GaN technology development and fabrication facility in India. The assessment will examine technology and infrastructure requirements, fabrication capabilities, and potential pathways for strengthening domestic GaN semiconductor manufacturing.
SpintronicsAI Semiconductors said it is the first Indian company to enter into a Technology and Design Transfer partnership of this nature with CSIR-CEERI.
GaN is increasingly being adopted for applications requiring high-frequency operation, higher power density and improved efficiency. The technology has applications across defence and aerospace, space systems, satellite communications, RF communications, telecommunications, power electronics and electric mobility.
“This initiative can help India capture more of that value domestically by developing and manufacturing GaN products for power, RF, telecom, defence, space and automotive applications, while also creating opportunities for global markets,” said Raghu Varma, Founder & CEO, SpintronicsAI Semiconductors.
The company said India’s GaN semiconductor market is projected to grow from approximately $224 million in 2026 to nearly $1.88 billion by 2033.
Manish Mathew, Head, Diamond Research Group, CSIR-CEERI, said the collaboration will strengthen India’s indigenous GaN technology ecosystem by leveraging CSIR-CEERI’s more than two decades of experience in GaN devices.
The partnership comes as India seeks to build domestic capabilities across semiconductor design, technology development, fabrication and advanced packaging, with GaN emerging as an important technology for high-performance power and RF applications.
