Wednesday, July 31, 2013: A four-week solar installation training programme from 29 July to 29 August was announced on Monday by SuEdison and the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) Chennai, under the department of MSME. Minister of Rural Industries, P Mohan inaugurated the programme that is intended to be conducted at the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) campus in the city.
SunEdison has donated 120 hours of coursework with advisory assistance from the Solarillion Foundation. According to The New Indian Express, “SunEdison is committed to transforming lives through innovation. In this case, we are collaborating with EDI Chennai to help young people become solar entrepreneurs,” said Pashupathy Gopalan, president of the company in Asia (excluding China), Middle-East, South Africa, and Australia for SunEdison.
“We share the common goal of improving the level of solar expertise in the state of Tamil Nadu. This programme will prepare students for self-employment opportunities and give them the tools to start small-scale solar enterprises,” he added.
Candidates holding a diploma or an engineering degree can apply for the course which encompasses solar module installation, with technical training provided by SunEdison. One is required to pay Rs 15,000 for the course that covers the cost of full material as well as educational cost.
The coursework has been provided for free by SunEdison. Apart from educating students on the mechanics of solar installation, students will be taught entrepreneurial that is paramount for success in business.
