Tamil Nadu Plans ₹175 Crore Semiconductor & Electronics Manufacturing Park in Kanchipuram

The project is estimated to cost ₹400 crore and will include office infrastructure, startup facilities, modern laboratories and training centres

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has announced plans to establish a Semiconductor & Electronics Manufacturing Park in Kanchipuram district with an estimated investment of ₹175 crore, as the State seeks to strengthen its semiconductor and electronics manufacturing ecosystem.

Making a suo motu statement in the Assembly, Vijay said the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) will establish the proposed park. The facility will include world-class research and development (R&D) infrastructure aimed at supporting the establishment of new manufacturing units in the semiconductor sector.

According to the Chief Minister, the park is expected to attract investments of up to ₹2,000 crore in the semiconductor sector and generate around 5,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities. The initiative is part of Tamil Nadu’s broader efforts to expand its industrial base and attract investments in high-technology manufacturing.

In addition to the semiconductor park, the State announced plans for a Coimbatore Fintech Hub, which will be developed by the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. The project is estimated to cost ₹400 crore and will include office infrastructure, startup facilities, modern laboratories and training centres to attract global fintech investments and create high-quality jobs.

The State will also undertake a study and prepare a project report for establishing a Multi-Modal Logistics Hub in the central region of Tiruchirappalli to support surrounding manufacturing and MSME clusters.

Tamil Nadu also plans to add 1,600 MW of power capacity through two 800 MW units at the Tuticorin Thermal Power Station campus at an estimated cost of ₹20,800 crore. Meanwhile, the ₹33,066 crore Tamil Nadu Transmission Improvement Scheme will strengthen the power transmission network through 196 new substations, 15,000 km of new power lines and upgrades to existing infrastructure.

The State has further allocated ₹1,762 crore to strengthen Chennai’s distribution network by establishing 36 new substations and upgrading distribution equipment to improve reliability during monsoons and periods of peak power demand.
