Inputs from industry

Dr Babu informed that the Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu has drafted the policy with inputs of industry experts from leading electronics manufacturers, such as Nokia India, Foxconn India and Salcomp.

Sudharshan Pitty, Head – Manufacturing Operations, Nokia India, said that the company’s largest manufacturing facility in volume terms is in Oragadam, near Chennai. Nokia is also one of the first companies to manufacture 3G, 4G and 5G equipment in the country.

Pitty also said that the company manufactures and exports latest telecommunication equipment and supplies its products manufactured in India to more than 100 countries.

Major hub for electronics manufacturing

Ajai Chowdhry, Promoter, HCL and Chairman, India Angel Network, said that Tamil Nadu has been at the top in electronics manufacturing for many years. However, the state should also look ‘very seriously’ at exports.

He suggested that the state government should develop a complete ecosystem for supporting electronics manufacturing and also take steps in bringing component manufacturers to the state.
