Tata Power, Posco affiliate to set up solar project in TN

Sungjin Geotech, an affiliate of the South Korean steel major Posco looking to set-up its 200 MW and above, solar power projects in Tamil Nadu. The statement came from Alex Kim, who was representing the Korean firm at a meeting that took place between prospective solar power developers and Tamil Nadu electricity utility, TANGEDCO.

Talking on the sidelines of the meeting, Kim said that Sungjin had been “looking for opportunities for solar projects in Tamil Nadu” for the last two to three years, but things have been finally sorted out.

When Sungjin was asked whether the 200 MW of solar power projects will be used to create a park or developers could put up their own projects, Kim said the company was open to all options.

Tata Power is another prospective solar investor in Tamil Nadu. Among those who participated in the investor meeting was Krishnan Rajagopalan, manager, Strategy and Business Development, Tata Power. Krishnan said that Tata Power was examining the prospect of putting up a solar project in the State.

Other than these firms, the meeting included representatives from major energy companies like Mytrah, GMR, Kiran Energy, SunEdison, Mahindra Cleantech and Enfinity.
