This partnership between two industry leaders is anticipated to significantly accelerate the advancement of India’s electric vehicle (EV) sector into its next stage.
Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) has signed a MoU with Shell India Markets Private Limited (SIMPL) to jointly establish public charging stations throughout India. Leveraging Shell’s extensive fuel station network and TPEM’s insights from over 140,000 Tata EVs on Indian roads, the collaboration aims to install chargers at locations frequently visited by Tata EV owners.
In a bid to enhance the EV ownership experience nationwide, the agreement seeks to identify synergies between the two companies to drive greater EV adoption in India. Additionally, they are exploring the introduction of convenient payment systems and loyalty programs to enhance value for TPEM’s customers.
Balaje Rajan, Chief Strategy Officer at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., expressed excitement about the partnership, saying that this collaboration with Shell reflects their commitment to advancing India’s EV ecosystem through open collaboration. They aim to expand the current charging infrastructure, which is vital for the mainstream adoption of EVs in India, especially as the customer base continues to grow. By combining TPEM’s deep understanding of EV usage with Shell’s unmatched customer experience, this strategic alliance is poised to bring about a significant shift in India’s charging behaviour, ultimately boosting EV adoption in the country.
Sanjay Varkey, Director at Shell India Markets Private Limited, highlighted Shell’s commitment to enhancing the EV charging experience by offering integrated solutions that prioritize convenience, safety, and sustainability. He emphasized Shell’s use of 100% certified renewable sources and its deployment of ultra-fast and reliable chargers to provide customers with a sustainable, hassle-free, and efficient charging experience. Varkey stated that their strategic partnership with Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd aims to promote the widespread adoption of electric vehicles in the country by leveraging digital integration and customer-centric initiatives.
International case studies indicate that ubiquitous and convenient charging infrastructure is crucial for driving EV adoption and that an increase in charging infrastructure leads to exponential growth in EV adoption. This collaboration between two leading companies in the field is expected to propel India’s EV growth to its next phase.
