The latest in capacitors and resistors

Wednesday, August 14, 2013: A variety of capacitors are available in the market like film capacitors, ceramic capacitors, electrolytic capacitors, aluminium electrolytic capacitors and tantalum electrolytic capacitors, and a new range of surface mountable, multi-layer ceramic capacitors (MLCC). There are also many different types of resistors available like carbon composition resistors, film or cermet resistors, wire-wound resistors and semiconductor resistors, of which chip resistors, are picking up in demand. In this section, we feature the new launches in resistors and capacitors. However, companies like Cooper Industries, Bourns, On Chip, Panasonic Electronic Devices Company Ltd, Samsung Electro-Mechanical, Yageo Corporation, Filcon Electronics, and Stead Electronics have not launched any resistors or capacitors in the last six months.

Launched in July 2013, the CWR26 tantamount solid tantalum chip capacitor has a low equivalent series resistance (ESR) of 0.180 Ω at 100 kHz.

  • For high-reliability applications, the capacitor features a capacitance range of 10 μF to 100 μF, over voltage ratings from 15V DC to 35V DC, with capacitance tolerance of ± 5 per cent, ± 10 per cent, and ± 20 per cent

  • The devices offer excellent load-life stability up to ±0.005 per cent typical (50 ppm) at 3 W (heat sink) and +25°C for 2,000 hours, a thermal stabilisation time of <1 s, and a wide resistance range from 0.25 Ω to 500 Ω

Launched in June 2013, these surface-mount chip capacitors provide excellent capacitance and ultra-low ESR in a compact case size. By maintaining 20 per cent recommended voltage derating, the TCJ series of capacitors significantly extend the useable voltage range and can be used for a wide array of high-voltage applications.

  • The TCJ series exhibits a benign failure mode, which eliminates the ignition failures that can occur in standard MnO2 tantalum technology, increases robustness, and mitigates any tendency to overload or burn
  • The TCJ series of capacitors maintains high reliability exceeding 1 per cent per 1,000 hours at 85ºC and full-rated voltage
  • Rated for use from -55ºC to +105ºC, 100V and 125V, this series of SMD capacitors features small case sizes (2924 for the 100V and 2917 for the 125V) and low profiles. These capacitors are halogen-free, in accordance with the criteria for environmentally responsible product design that were recently adopted by several other major electronics manufacturers
