The German mobility giant expands its Indian engineering footprint with a new hub dedicated to software-defined vehicles and advanced chassis systems.
Thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology has formally opened its new Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Pune, India, marking a key milestone in the extension of its global research and development infrastructure. Following an initial setup phase, the site currently houses more than 120 engineers working on software, hardware, systems, and mechanical development for international client initiatives. The company intends to scale its headcount in Pune beyond 300 professionals in the coming years.
The facility boosts the company’s capabilities in areas critical to software-defined, connected, and autonomous vehicles, including embedded systems, functional safety, cybersecurity, and next-generation chassis and steering technologies. Situated in the Solitaire Business Hub 2 within Pune’s Baner-Balewadi district, the engineering team works directly with global development units across the full product lifecycle.
“The transformation of the automotive industry is increasingly driven by software, electronics, and globally connected engineering teams,” stated Viktor Molnar, COO of thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology. “With our new centre in Pune, we are strengthening precisely these capabilities and creating additional development capacity for our customers worldwide.”
Pune was selected due to its mature automotive sector, strong software ecosystem, and top-tier academic institutions. To support future growth, the company plans to deepen ties with local universities and widen its recruitment drive across software, hardware, and mechanical engineering disciplines.
Beyond R&D, India is gaining importance for thyssenkrupp as a strategic sourcing hub. A local sales team is also being established in Pune to engage Indian vehicle manufacturers and secure regional commercial opportunities. The company has indicated that local manufacturing capabilities could follow, subject to securing target customer projects.
First announced in 2025, the Pune hub is now fully operational and integrated into thyssenkrupp Automotive Technology’s worldwide engineering network, which spans over 90 locations and generated roughly $7.8 billion in sales during fiscal year 2024/2025.
