Union Budget 2013: Highlights for electronics, power and energy, telecom sectors

Here’s what P Chidambaram’s budget has in store for the electronics, power and energy and telecom sectors.

Thursday, February 28, 2013: The Pandora box is finally open. India must make tough spending choices, finance minister P Chidambaram said while he unveiled the Union Budget 2013. The minister carved out ‘bigger-than-expected’ outlay for the upcoming fiscal year.

Here are the highlights of the budget:

Mobile phones, above Rs 2000, get expensive

Set Top box import duty raised

294 cities to get private FM radios. Cities with more than population of more than one lakh to have a private radio station

Rs 5400 crore to department of space and Rs 5600 crore to department of atomic energy.

Rs 800 crore to Wind energy initiatives
