Friday, August 02, 2013: The patten of Narmada solar power plant in Gujarat would be emulated for designing and building the 250MW UT solar park based on concentrated photo-voltaic technology. The Municipal Corporation Authority is supposed to initiate the installation of solar-based LED traffic lights, solar street lights, building integrated solar photo voltaic (PV) and other relevant solar products.
The UT solar park will be built on a stretch of land along seasonal PatialakiRao. Here water flows for just two to three months.
Under the National Mission of Solar Energy, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has identified Chandigarh as one of the 60 cities that should be developed as a model solar city. The rationale behind the concept of solar city is that Chandigarh should be able to meet its energy demand in such a way that it is affordable along with being environment-friendly.
Following a request by the administration, an Israeli-based private company, MST, had visited the site in August 2007 but till date no detailed report has been submitted by the company. The company stressed on the fact that making use of this new technology instead of flat panel silicon technology will double the efficiency of the project. Moreover, the project is expected to reduce the cost by 40 per cent.
For the purpose of setting up the project, the team even visited the possible sites like Patiala ki Rao and Sukhna choe.
