The state government is seeking financial assistance from the Centre to upgrade infrastructure at these locations.
The West Bengal government has planned to explore opportunities to make it mark its electronics manufacturing ecosystem by leveraging the Central government’s Modified Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMC 2.0) scheme.
The state is prioritising the modernisation of its existing electronics manufacturing clusters at Naihati and Falta.
According to reports, officials have identified the 70-acre Naihati cluster in North 24 Parganas and the 58-acre Falta cluster in South 24 Parganas as key hubs for expansion. Both clusters were established under the earlier EMC 1.0 programme and benefit from their strategic proximity to Kolkata, ports, and major logistics networks.
The state government is awaiting financial assistance from the Centre to upgrade infrastructure at these locations. Proposed developments include plug-and-play factory sheds, shared testing and certification facilities, and enhanced logistics support to attract electronics manufacturers and component suppliers.
Launched in April 2020 by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the EMC 2.0 scheme is designed to create world-class infrastructure for electronics manufacturing and will remain operational until March 2028. The scheme provides financial assistance of up to 50% of project costs, capped at ₹70 crore per 100 acres, with a maximum support limit of ₹350 crore per project. Additionally, Common Facility Centres (CFCs) can receive up to 75% financial support, subject to a ceiling of ₹75 crore.
State governments, public sector undertakings, industrial development corporations, and joint ventures involving anchor units are eligible to apply under the scheme.
By upgrading its existing clusters through EMC 2.0, West Bengal aims to enhance its competitiveness in the electronics manufacturing sector, attract new investment, and build a stronger industrial base in the state.
