Wipro has announced a new business division called Wipro Electronics, focusing on manufacturing base materials for PCBs.
Wipro Infrastructure Engineering (WIN), a unit of Wipro Enterprises, has launched a new division, Wipro Electronic Materials, to manufacture base materials for printed circuit boards (PCBs), a key component in electronics hardware.
The new facility, located in Karnataka, is expected to begin production in 2026. It aims to produce more than 6 million copper-clad laminate (CCL) sheets and prepreg materials annually. The ₹5 billion investment is expected to generate around 350 jobs, with the intent to reduce India’s reliance on imported PCB raw materials.
India currently imports all of its copper-clad laminates, which are vital for PCB manufacturing across sectors like telecom, automotive, consumer electronics, and industrial systems.
By manufacturing these materials domestically, Wipro aims to plug a critical gap in the electronics supply chain, improving supply chain resilience and supporting domestic electronics manufacturing.
Pratik Kumar, CEO, Wipro Infrastructure Engineering says “The initiative has also received backing from the Government of Karnataka and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).”
The facility will include in-house R&D capabilities focused on resin development, material engineering, and proprietary process technologies, targeting high-performance applications.
According to WIN, the facility will not only supply Indian manufacturers but also cater to global OEMs, aiming to bring India a step closer to becoming a competitive player in the global electronics market.
