In a recent report, Maersk, the logistic giant, stated that it plans to go Net Zero and give 100% green solutions to its customers by 2040. To reach this target, decarbonizing logistics is needed at every stage. It is a prominent step for Maersk and its customers to attain environmentally friendly solutions.
Till now, Maersk’s Electric Vehicle fleet has crossed about 135,000 km. Maersk is also working on creating a proper charging network across the country to provide its EV fleet sustainability, which includes the option to utilize solar energy on its own.
Vikash Agarwal, Managing Director, Maersk South Asia, stated, “Maersk has recently tied up with a large e-commerce platform in India to support its distribution requirements with a dedicated fleet of EVs that range in the capacity of 550 to 700 Kgs with a driving range of over 120 km. Over 200+ vehicles have already been deployed across 15 cities, and more than 300 EVs,”
Last year, Maersk launched its three-wheeler and four-wheeler Electric Vehicles in Mumbai and the NCR region. After this launch, the demand and awareness for EVs for distribution logistics in India have risen. The company knows that India is a huge distribution logistics and the E-commerce industry has specifically grown over the last decade and has been growing tremendously with great potential in coming years. With the growth of the e-commerce industry, the demand for distribution is also growing for middle- and last-mile distribution.
He further stated that we are not restricted to just any distribution means, our customers are looking for better solutions for decarbonizing supply chains, and we are working to provide the solutions with our fleet of electric vehicles in India.
