The Delhi cabinet approved the extension of the current Delhi EV policy until December 31, 2023, or until Policy 2.0 is notified.
Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot shared on platform X that the Delhi cabinet has sanctioned the Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy extension until the end of 2023 or the unveiling of the Delhi EV Policy 2.0. He emphasized that all existing incentives will remain in place. Furthermore, the Delhi EV Policy 2.0 is nearing its finalization and will be announced after the necessary clearances. All benefits, including subsidies from the current policy, will persist during this extended period.
Gahlot had previously stated that two vehicle aggregator initiatives, introduced in May 2023 for public input, are nearing completion and will soon be presented for official approval.
Gahlot mentioned on platform ‘X’ that the two schemes, namely the Delhi Motor Vehicle Aggregator and Delivery Service Provider Scheme 2023 and the Delhi Motor Vehicles Licensing of Aggregator (Premium Buses) Scheme, 2023, introduced in May 2023 for public feedback, are now in their concluding phase.
The Delhi Motor Vehicle Aggregator and Delivery Service Provider Scheme aims to set guidelines for ride-sharing and delivery service platforms, aiming for a complete shift to electric vehicles (EVs) by 2030. The scheme also plans to implement regulatory measures for bike taxis and bike rental services. Once approved, service aggregators will be expected to transition their fleets to electric progressively.
The primary goal of the Delhi EV Policy is to enhance Delhi’s air quality by establishing a comprehensive supply-chain ecosystem for this emerging vehicle segment. The policy aims to have 25% of all newly registered vehicles as battery-operated by 2024, contributing significantly to improving Delhi’s air quality.
