Mitsubishi Electric Opens 2,200 MINR Advanced Factory Automation Plant In Maharashtra

Mitsubishi Electric India has inaugurated a new facility for Factory Automation Systems in the Talegaon Industrial area, Maharashtra, India. This facility specializes in producing advanced automation systems and is designed to meet high standards of quality and reliability.

The plant spans an area of 40,000 sq.m, with an initial construction of 15,400 sq.m. It represents a Greenfield Investment of 2,200 MINR, reflecting the company’s aim to strengthen its presence in India and meet the increasing global demand for automation and smart manufacturing solutions. This factory will not only facilitate business growth but also enable the local manufacturing of Mitsubishi Electric’s global product range, meeting evolving customer needs and increasing the company’s market presence in India. For over a decade, Mitsubishi Electric India’s Factory Automation & Industrial Division has been influential in India, serving sectors like automotive, food & beverages, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and emerging areas such as data centres and e-commerce. With the growth of India’s manufacturing sector and the rising demand for smart automation solutions, Mitsubishi Electric India’s automation business has expanded significantly, adapting to the changing Indian market.

The new smart factory is supported by robust local Research & Development to develop products tailored to the specific requirements of various industries. This aligns with the company’s ambitious growth plans in India. The facility also aligns with the ‘Make in India’ initiative, aimed at attracting investment, fostering innovation, enhancing skills, and establishing top-tier manufacturing infrastructure in the country. The plant’s approach to addressing customer needs, customization, and cost-effectiveness is evident.

A unique feature of this facility is the solution experience zone for customers, showcasing the latest innovations. This includes demonstrations of the “e-F@ctory” solution, which incorporates digital technologies like big data, IIoT, Edge Computing, and Advanced Robotics to facilitate digital transformation in manufacturing. Other highlights include Building Management Solutions, Collaborative Robot demonstrations, and various automation solutions.

The factory operations are fully digitalized, with real-time data tracking using the e-F@ctory solution. The advanced Building Management System optimizes energy use and cost-efficiency. The inauguration event was attended by Mr Hisahiro Nishimoto, Group Vice President, Industry and Mobility Area (IMBA), Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Japan, Mr Kazuhiko Tamura, Managing Director, Mitsubishi Electric India, and Mr Tomohiro Yoshida, Director and Factory Automation Division Head, Mitsubishi Electric India. The event included a ribbon-cutting ceremony and traditional rituals.

During the event, Mr Nishimoto expressed Mitsubishi Electric’s commitment to addressing global challenges like decarbonization and labour shortages through technology and the company’s aim to be a Circular Digital Engineering company. Mr. Tamura emphasized Mitsubishi Electric’s efforts to meet India’s growing business opportunities, aligning with initiatives like Atma Nirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliance) and Make-in-India. He reiterated the company’s commitment to India and its vision for expansion.

Mr. Yoshida highlighted Mitsubishi Electric’s dedication to automating the world and how the new facility represents this commitment. He mentioned the significant growth in the Factory Automation Business in India and the factory’s role in enhancing local production, global supply chain management, and manufacturing quality. The company’s broader commitment to India, encompassing R&D and manufacturing, was also stressed.

The launch of Mitsubishi Electric India’s new factory marks a significant milestone in enhancing its global presence while addressing the dynamic demands of both Indian and international markets. This step aims to improve delivery efficiency, enhance supply chain capabilities, ensure cost-effectiveness, and empower customers and the broader manufacturing sector in India with improved efficiency and precision.
