MG Motor and HPCL collaborate to install 50kW/60kW fast chargers, transforming India’s EV infrastructure for convenient long-distance travel on highways and cities.
In a strategic move aimed at bolstering the nation’s electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, MG Motors India and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd have built a partnership. Together, they are set to roll out 50kW/60kW DC fast chargers, covering highways and urban locations across India.This collaborative effort signifies an important step towards enhancing the accessibility and convenience of EVcharging points, particularly for long-distance and intercity travelers.
In alignment with the government of India’s FAME scheme aimed at boosting the EV market and introducing financial incentives. HPCL currently operates over 3,600 charging stations with plans to install 5,000 electric vehicle charging stations by December 2024.
Through this partnership with MG Motor India, HPCL intends to maximise utilisation of its chargers installed across India. MG Motor India has also mentioned about the MyMG mobile application through which EV owners can access these charging stations.
Previously, MG Motors has also collaborated with top EV charging solution providers like Tata Power, Delta Electronics, and Fortum to install over 15.000 public and private charges across the country.
Gaurav Gupta, Chief Growth Officer of MG Motor India said that the key to a successful transition to electric mobility is a robust EV ecosystem. As an early mover in the EV space, MG has been at the forefront of the development of a strong EV ecosystem. Along with our ecosystem partners, we are working to create a vast network of EV charging stations, in addition to battery recycling & battery second life solutions for end-to-end sustainability of electric vehicles.
He emphasizes that partnership with HPCL is yet another step to expanding the EV charging infrastructure in India to energize and enhance customer confidence in EVs. HPCL’s vast network and significant presence in India will ensure that existing and prospective EV users across the country have convenient access to our charging solutions.
Shri Rajdip Ghosh, Chief General Manager, Highway Retailing, HPCL, mentioned that through this partnership with MG Motor India, HPCL shall leverage the vehicle base of MG to increase the utilization of its chargers installed across India. HPCL will analyze charger usage to improve customer experience and strategic expansion in EV Charging infrastructure at places. This synergy will help in the growth of EVs in the coming days.
