Tata Power Boosts E-bus Charging Network

The Tata Group subsidiary installs EV chargers for e-buses across Indian cities to bolster e-mobility and reduce emissions.

According to an official announcement on Wednesday, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), has deployed over 850 charging points for e-buses in major metropolitan locations.

These charging points have been specified for public electric buses. The company has not mentioned whether other EVs can avail of the facility.

The charging system features high-capacity fast chargers ranging from 180 to 240 KW, with an average charging time of 1 to 1.5 hours. According to the company, this will cater to the rigorous operational requirements of public transit buses.

This facility will enable the deployment of 2,300 public e-buses. The charging stations have been placed near 30+ bus depots across the Indian cities of Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Jammu, Srinagar, Dharwad, Lucknow, and Goa. Tata Power already shares original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partnerships with state transport corporations in these cities, such as DTC, BEST, BMTC, JSCL, SSCL, and BRTS-AJL.

The company sees this initiative as a significant step to reduce CO2 emissions in Indian cities. It has been mentioned that Delhi is at the forefront of e-bus adoption with Tata Power’s EV charging points, closely followed by Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Jammu, and Srinagar.

Aligned with India’s Net Zero goals, Tata Power aims to achieve Net Zero emissions by 2040. TPREL claims to provide a complete solution for charging infrastructure development, focusing on efficient and cost-effective design solutions, and comprehensive operation and maintenance (O&M) services for e-mobility clients. The services also include effluent treatment plants and statutory NOC approvals to facilitate business operations.

As a player in the country’s transition to green energy, Tata Power offers a range of green energy solutions, from Rooftop Solar, Home Automation, and Smart Metering to EV Charging, to promote sustainable lifestyles. It has a global portfolio of 14,790MW across the entire renewable energy ecosystem. The company’s focus is on fostering the adoption of green energy solutions and making sustainability a people’s movement.
