Focusing on weather forecasting and disaster management, Mohan Babu University has launched a high-altitude balloon satellite called MBUSAT-1 in collaboration with NARL.
Mohan Babu University (MBU) of Tirupati, teaming up with the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL), unveiled a high-altitude balloon satellite on Monday at a cost of only 150,000 INR. Initiated in November 2023, this project aims to advance space technology and atmospheric research at MBU.
The venture’s primary objective is to gather crucial atmospheric data to improve weather forecasting and disaster management. MBU has chosen 25 students from various engineering disciplines in this effort under faculty supervision.
According to MBU’s official statement, this partnership has facilitated NARL’s expertise in satellite design and operations to support MBUSAT-1. The project focuses on the university’s students and faculty with practical experience in space and atmospheric sciences. Through community outreach, it seeks to inspire future scientists and engineers.
The university confirmed that the collaboration with NARL has significantly reduced launch costs. Furthermore, students will be involved in every aspect of the MBUSAT-1 mission, gaining hands-on experience for careers in the expanding space industry.
Pro-Chancellor Vishnu Manchu expressed pride in the occasion of the launching. He noted, “This milestone highlights MBU’s role in shaping the future of space innovation.”
Mohan Babu University, established in 1992 in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, offers 108+ graduate and postgraduate courses in applied science and engineering under the leadership of Padma Shri Dr. M. Mohan Babu and Vishnu Machu.
