Motherson Group partners with BIEL Crystal Manufactory to build a $20-25 billion consumer electronics facility in Tamil Nadu, expanding beyond automotive and supporting Apple’s supply chain diversification.
The Motherson Group is expanding its footprint beyond automotive components by partnering with Hong Kong-based BIEL Crystal Manufactory to join Apple’s supply chain network in India. This collaboration aims to utilise Motherson’s manufacturing expertise to enter new sectors.
The partners will invest $20-25 billion crore to establish a new manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu, projected to generate $80-85 billion in turnover within four to five years of operations. The consumer electronics unit is expected to commence between July and September.
Motherson’s Chairman, Vivek Chaand Sehgal, focuses on diversifying the group’s core manufacturing capabilities into new industries such as aerospace, healthcare, and electronics.
As part of his Vision 2025, Sehgal aims to have a quarter of the group’s projected $36 billion revenue from these new sectors. The group has made significant strides in aerospace with four acquisitions and is building a new greenfield unit in Chennai for healthcare. Strategic partnerships like the one with BIEL are central to Motherson’s diversification strategy.
In January, Motherson and BIEL announced a series of agreements, including BIEL’s investment in Motherson Electronic Components Pvt. Ltd. (MECPL) and the provision of technical support. Details of the joint venture and future investments remain undisclosed.
