The officials remarked that the EV ecosystem in India is anticipated to provide 20 million jobs by 2030 and 40 percent escalation in EV related skills.
With the growth of electric cars, the demand for electric vehicles technicians will also increase, according to the automobile market researchers. Keeping the situation in mind, Punjab’s Technical Education and Industrial Training Department has begun EV mechanic courses at eight Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
According to the department, the new courses gained a huge traction among the students and the admission have already commenced at the ITIs backed by the state government. There are 384 seats reserved by the department for the course at the eight designated institutes.
Amit Talwar, director, Technical Education, said, “The focus is on industry driven courses and preparing students for radically changed skill sets. With this in mind, we are striving to make the ITIs resource centers for providing industry-relevant skilled workforce to various trades.”
The state’s technical and industrial department has partnered with well-known car makers such as Maruti Suzuki and Mahindra for investing in upgrading the infrastructure and skilling the students by the industry leaders. As per the latest scheme announced in the union budget this year, the department is looking for an investment of Rs 8 Crore from the manufacturers.
An official carrying out the project, said, “The focus is on the outcome and quality of skilling, with course content and design aligned to the needs of the industry. The Centre is working on creating a favourable regulatory framework to support EV innovation and development of electric vehicles, the demand for skilled EV technicians is set to increase in future.”
