Eyeing to support the automotive and connected technologies industry in India, SiliconAuto has opened a research and development facility in Bengaluru to focus on semiconductor design.
SiliconAuto, a Netherland-based automotive technology company backed by Foxconn, has launched a research and development (R&D) centre in Bengaluru. This facility will concentrate on semiconductor product design and system-on-chip (SoC) development specifically for the automotive industry.
The company is a joint venture between Stellantis NV, also based in the Netherlands, and Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn) from Taiwan, which aims to drive innovation in transportation.
In an official statement, Gene Liu, CEO of SiliconAuto, stated that the Bengaluru location is ideal due to its abundant talent pool and dynamic tech environment. These factors enhance the company’s vision for a smarter and safer transportation future.
Furthermore, the company has conveyed its focus on advancing next-generation semiconductor solutions for electric vehicles (EVs), autonomous driving, and connected car technologies at the Bengaluru centre. It aims to recruit top engineers and designers, further bolstering its team and contributing to the burgeoning automotive ecosystem in India.
Foxconn’s representative, V Lee, emphasised that the R&D centre will support the company’s capacity to develop advanced automotive technologies and solutions, particularly for Stellantis. However, no financial information about the facility was disclosed.
In addition to the new facility, Foxconn is also working on establishing an EV manufacturing plant and plans to develop a battery manufacturing unit for the industry.
