Battery Smart Achieves 50 Million Battery Swaps

Battery Smart’s battery-as-a-service model enhances EV adoption by eliminating charging concerns, providing quick two-minute battery swaps to save time, reducing range anxiety, and decreasing the initial costs for EV drivers by as much as 40%.

Battery Smart, India’s largest battery-swapping network for electric two three-wheelers, announced that it had completed 50 million battery swaps. This achievement signifies a notable milestone within the electric vehicle (EV) industry in India, establishing Battery Smart as a leading figure in the sector.

Founded less than five years ago, Battery Smart has expanded its operations to over 1,400 battery-swapping stations across more than 35 cities in India, supporting over 60,000 drivers. The company’s business model, which focuses on battery-as-a-service, aims to enhance EV adoption by providing rapid battery swaps within two minutes, reducing the upfront cost of EVs by up to 40%, and mitigating range anxiety—a common concern among EV users.

The company’s growth strategy includes a partner-led approach that incorporates existing infrastructure, which facilitates its rapid expansion while supporting local businesses and promoting greater EV accessibility, especially in tier 1 to tier 3 regions.

Pulkit Khurana, Co-Founder and CEO of Battery Smart commented on the milestone, emphasizing that the achievement reflects the company’s commitment to making EV adoption more accessible and affordable. He noted the success of their battery-swapping model in addressing key challenges for EV users and expressed gratitude towards partners, customers, and government support in advancing sustainable mobility.

The announcement coincides with government initiatives like the PM E-DRIVE scheme aimed at boosting electric two- and three-wheeler adoption in India, alongside recent guidelines by the Ministry of Power for battery swapping, which together foster a supportive ecosystem for EVs. Battery Smart highlights that its services also contribute to greater financial independence and employment opportunities, particularly noting that their number of female drivers is three to four times the industry average.
