India’s 85,000 Students Will Be Trained With Chip Design Skills By ChipIn At C-DAC

This center will also design the 5-nm technology, including assisting entrepreneurs and students in understanding the entire chip design process.

The ChipIN Centre at Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), which focuses on IT, electronics, and related areas, will impart semiconductor design skills to 85,000 students in India in the coming five years. According to C-DAC, students will be empowered with the finest skills to design chips for domestic consumption within the stipulated time frame. With access to the nation’s top semiconductor design facility, the initiative marks a significant stride for the chip design community.

C-DAC offers a wide range of crucial tools, solutions, and programs for semiconductor design, covering the whole spectrum of the value chain. Interestingly, this center will also design the latest 5-nm technology, including assisting entrepreneurs and students in understanding the entire chip design process.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) added that C-DAC has already managed to attract over 20,000 students from more than 250 academic institutions and 45 startup ventures. Officials added that the program needs to gain more traction, and Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools access will be provided to 85,000 students across B.Tech, M.Tech, and PhD in the coming few years.

Siemens, the international technology conglomerate, is also supporting the initiative by increasing the scope of EDA tools to 250 academic institutions under the Chips to Startup (C2S) Program, which was earlier available for 120 colleges. The company’s Veloce hardware-assisted verification solution has also been unleashed for the companies under the DLI scheme, which is playing an important role in boosting the semiconductor ecosystem.

Sunita Verma, Group Coordinator (R&D in Electronics and IT), IT Ministry, said, “We have received an overwhelming demand from students, researchers, faculty members, and entrepreneurs across the country for enhanced EDA and design solutions. The extended support from Siemens at the ChipIN Centre will play a pivotal role in realizing the vision of turning India into a global semiconductor powerhouse.”
