Eka Mobility To Invest ₹8 Billion In E-Bus Expansion

Boosting delivery capacity, Eka Mobility will invest ₹8 billion to expand electric bus production and services.

Eka Mobility, the electric bus maker promoted by Pinnacle Industries and backed by Japan’s Mitsui Corp and Dutch VDL Group, will invest 8 billion this financial year to expand capacity and strengthen delivery commitments with state governments and private operators.

The investment will be a mix of equity and debt, helping Eka increase the number of buses it can deliver each month. The company, which had already announced a ₹18 billion investment in 2022, is focusing on faster deliveries and scaling up its order book of over 3,300 electric buses across India and international markets.

Founder and chairman Sudhir Mehta said Eka will double its monthly bus delivery capacity to 500 units by the end of this fiscal year. The company operates two plants in Pune and is building a third facility in Madhya Pradesh.

The investment comes at a time when e-bus makers face rising demand, following Maharashtra’s decision to reinstate an order for 5,000 electric buses after delays. Eka competes with Tata Motors, JBM Auto, Ashok Leyland and PMI Electro Mobility Solutions in the fast-growing segment.

In FY25, 3,314 electric buses were sold in India, representing 6% of total bus sales. Eka delivered 72 e-buses, with a 0.3% market share. Since April, it has registered and delivered 163 buses.
