Aiming to deliver more efficient, scalable energy solutions, onsemi moves to acquire Vcore technology from Aura Semiconductor. AI data centres to get a power boost with this?
US-based onsemi has signed an agreement with Aura Semiconductor to acquire its Vcore power technology portfolio, including related intellectual property licences. The company aims to strengthen its position in power management solutions for artificial intelligence (AI) data centres, with this deal.
onsemi highlighted that the acquisition will allow it to expand its offering across the entire power tree in AI infrastructure, from grid to core delivery. This aligns with its strategy to meet the rising energy and efficiency needs of next-generation computing.
Sudhir Gopalswamy, group president of the Intelligent Sensing and Analog and Mixed-Signal Group at onsemi, said the move highlights the company’s commitment to delivering differentiated solutions.
“By integrating these technologies, we will deliver higher power density, improved efficiency and superior thermal management, enabling greater compute capacity per rack,” he noted.
With specialisation in silicon and silicon carbide (SiC) technologies, onsemi’s portfolio covers solid-state transformers, power supply units, 800 VDC distribution, and core delivery solutions.
The company noted that the deal will have minimal impact on its earnings per share in the first fiscal year after closing, but will turn accretive thereafter.
The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025, subject to customary conditions and regulatory approvals.
