Strengthening India’s aerospace ecosystem, Tata Advanced Systems and Safran open a new facility to produce LEAP aircraft engine components.
Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL), one of India’s leading aerospace and defence companies, and Safran Aircraft Engines, a global leader in aircraft engine manufacturing, have inaugurated a state of the art production facility at the Tata Centre of Excellence for Aero Engines in Adibatla, Hyderabad. The new facility will manufacture complex rotating parts for the CFM LEAP engine, bringing advanced machining and special processes under one roof.
The ceremony was attended by D. Sridhar Babu, Telangana’s Minister for Information Technology, Electronics and Communications, Industries and Commerce, and Legislative Affairs, along with senior executives from both companies and government dignitaries.
The inauguration marks a major milestone in the strategic partnership between TASL and Safran, announced in January 2024, for the long term production of LEAP engine components. The LEAP engine, developed by CFM International, a joint venture between GE Aerospace and Safran Aircraft Engines, powers most new generation narrowbody aircraft and delivers 15 per cent better fuel efficiency with lower noise and emissions.
India is the third largest operator of LEAP engines globally, with 75 per cent of Indian commercial aircraft equipped with CFM’s technology. More than 2,000 LEAP engines have been ordered by Indian airlines, highlighting the importance of developing robust manufacturing capabilities within the country’s growing aerospace ecosystem.
