As the winter session at the Lok Sabha commences, the government reports almost ₹16.34 billion in subsidies disbursed under the PM E-DRIVE Scheme as of November 2025.
The government has released fresh details on the progress of the PM E-DRIVE Scheme, confirming that subsidies worth ₹1634.62 crore (equivalent to ₹16.34 billion) have been disbursed as of 23 November 2025. The update was provided in a written reply by Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, in the Lok Sabha.
The scheme, launched in September 2024, continues to push India’s shift towards electric mobility, with a focus on emergency services. The government has set aside ₹5 billion specifically for electric ambulances. Stakeholder consultations for the ambulance segment are complete. The Minister highlighted that the guidelines will be issued shortly.
Moreover, the scheme has been extended until 31 March 2028 for e-ambulances and other approved vehicle categories. However, for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, the deadline remains 31 March 2026.
Another major component of PM E-DRIVE is the establishment of public charging stations nationwide. The scheme has set aside ₹20 billion for public charging infrastructure for electric vehicles. Yet, no grants have been released so far for installing these facilities. Two oil marketing companies have expressed interest and submitted proposals to participate in this phase of implementation.
Furthermore, large-scale deployment of electric buses is also underway. Mumbai has been allocated 1500 e-buses under the scheme. Delhi will receive 2800 units.
In Maharashtra, Pune has been sanctioned 1000 e-buses in addition to Mumbai’s allocation. These deployments aim to reduce urban emissions and support cleaner public transport networks.
To improve access and ensure uniform standards, the government has notified guidelines for EV charging infrastructure under PM E-DRIVE. These guidelines have been shared with all State Governments and Union Territories to support the timely rollout.
