Contributing to nationwide adoption of solar power, Karnataka reports 14,151 new installations, as the Centre accelerates efforts to reach ten million solar-enabled homes.
Karnataka has recorded 14,151 rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY), delivering free electricity benefits to 22,313 households across the state. The update was shared in the Rajya Sabha by Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi.
According to the government update, Karnataka remains one of India’s strongest performers in renewable energy. As of 31 October 2025, the state has installed 25,675.39MW of renewable capacity. This represents 10.24% of the country’s total renewable capacity of 250,643.45MW (approximately 250.64 GW).
Across the country, adoption of rooftop solar remains robust. By 26 November 2025, 1.872 million rooftop systems had been installed, bringing solar benefits to more than 2.347 million households.
In Karnataka’s Belagavi district, which was specially highlighted, 25,778 applications have been filed on the National Portal. Of these, 681 households have received rooftop solar systems so far. The Ministry aims to accelerate progress in all regions as part of its target to equip one crore households with rooftop solar by 2026–27.
The Minister mentioned that several reforms and incentives are underpinning this scale-up. The entire process, from registration to subsidy disbursal, is now online. Consumers can access collateral-free loans from nationalised banks at a concessional interest rate of 6% per annum. More than 567,000 rooftop systems have already been installed through such loans.
Regulatory procedures have been simplified too. Technical feasibility checks have been waived, and automatic load enhancement up to 10kW has been introduced. Vendor registration has also been streamlined, with more than 20,000 vendors certified so far. Training programmes have produced nearly 150,000 skilled personnel to support installation and maintenance.
The government continues to promote the scheme through extensive outreach campaigns and regular reviews with states and DISCOMs. A multilingual call centre has been set up to support consumers and address grievances.
Meanwhile, the Ministry confirmed that Karnataka has received almost ₹3.51 billion for the development of the 2000MW Pavagada Solar Park, which has been fully operational since 2019. However, the state currently has no proposals for new solar or wind parks in North Karnataka, including Belagavi.
