India-EU Strengthen 6G Collaboration for Global Growth

Paving the way for global digital growth, India and the EU strengthen 6G collaboration, with a focus on security, innovation, and resilient telecom supply chains.

India and the European Union (EU) have reaffirmed their collaboration on next-generation digital technologies, with a particular focus on 6G, security, and resilient telecom supply chains.

This was outlined in the Towards 2030: A Joint India-EU Comprehensive Strategic Agenda, endorsed at the 16th India–EU Summit on 27 January 2026. The agenda aims to expand secure digital infrastructure and foster trusted telecom ecosystems worldwide.

This commitment follows a joint statement issued during the visit of Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and the EU College of Commissioners to India in February 2025.

The leaders highlighted the growing importance of advanced technologies and agreed to strengthen cooperation through the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC), with a focus on telecommunications, digital infrastructure, and global standards.

A key development is the partnership between India’s Bharat 6G Alliance and the EU’s 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G SNS IA). The collaboration aims to align research and innovation on secure, trusted 6G networks. It is expected to help diversify telecom supply chains, with an emphasis on openness, interoperability, and security-by-design.

Both sides also agreed to enhance efforts in the research, testing, and standardisation of 6G technologies, with a shared goal of developing globally interoperable standards that drive innovation and digital growth.

The partnership aligns with India’s national 6G vision, led by the Department of Telecommunications, which seeks to position India as a global leader in 6G technology. This collaboration is expected to help build secure, affordable, and sustainable digital infrastructure in the country.

Additionally, the Bharat 6G Alliance and the EU’s 6G SNS IA have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further their joint efforts in 6G research, network architecture, and the development of harmonised global standards.
