Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined India’s next telecom priorities at India Mobile Congress 2026, highlighting 6G, AI, semiconductor production, domestic electronics manufacturing and cybersecurity. India has deployed over 5.5 lakh 5G base stations, with coverage reaching every district and mobile internet speeds increasing tenfold since 2022.
“In 2023, I spoke about India’s transition from 5G rollout to 5G reach-out,” Modi said.
The agenda also emphasises strengthening India’s mobile phone and telecom equipment manufacturing capabilities, alongside semiconductor production. However, the address did not announce specific new manufacturing investments or semiconductor projects.
Modi stressed the need to protect devices, networks, personal data and digital payments as connectivity expands. “Phone and network security are our top priorities,” he said, calling for international cooperation against cross-border cybercrime.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the mobile phone’s growing role in governance, financial transactions and access to digital services under the Digital India initiative.
Held on 8 October 2026, the 10th India Mobile Congress covers 5G and 6G, AI-driven networks, semiconductors, non-terrestrial networks, quantum communication, electronics manufacturing and industrial robotics, reflecting the growing intersection of telecommunications, electronics and emerging technologies.
