ATL Medical Adopts OMNIVISION ISP for Imaging System

From operating theatres to engineering labs, a new partnership promises sharper, faster medical imaging; reshaping arthroscope technology with OMNIVISION’s ISP at ATL Medical’s core.

OMNIVISION and ATL Medical have announced a collaboration that integrates OMNIVISION’s ‘OVMed OH0131’ image signal processor (ISP) into ATL’s ‘PREVOYANCE’ complete imaging system, which uses ‘Chip-on-Tip’ technology for arthroscope camera units.

According to ATL, the PREVOYANCE platform is designed as a turnkey medical visualisation solution, offering high-quality imaging for device manufacturers seeking faster deployment at reduced cost. It is typically paired with a camera control unit (CCU) for image processing and storage.

OMNIVISION’s OH0131 ISP, purpose-built for medical applications, supports multi-image configurations and delivers colour accuracy, noise reduction and consistent performance under varied illumination.

The joint solution comprises a kernel board designed by OMNIVISION that processes raw sensor images via the OH0131 ISP and transmits them via a MIPI interface, and a host system designed by ATL that displays the processed images via HDMI.

ATL complements this with optics, illumination, cabling, distal-end fabrication and ergonomic design, enabling OEMs to accelerate development and reduce engineering risks.

Ehsan Ayar, senior staff marketing manager for OMNIVISION’s medical segment, said the main challenges for medical ISPs include real-time, high-fidelity imaging in environments affected by reflections, smoke, blood and shadows.

“Key obstacles include maintaining low-latency processing, handling high-volume data, and achieving accurate, automated segmentation and feature extraction during complex procedures,” he said.

ATL Medical vice president of strategy Mike Anderson stated that the partnership simplifies design cycles for customers.

“We have developed an off-the-shelf CCU that can be deployed standalone or be integrated into a customer’s existing platform, simplifying their design cycle while also improving the overall performance of their solution,” he mentioned.

Launched in 2023, the OH0131 ISP carries certifications including ISO 13585, RoHS, REACH and IEC 60601 standards. It supports OMNIVISION’s full range of medical image sensors, from 2MP down to 200 x 200 resolution, and is compatible with ‘AntLinx’ CMOS chip-on-tip imaging and MIPI interfaces.

OMNIVISION develops imaging and semiconductor solutions across multiple industries, while ATL Medical provides engineering and manufacturing services for medical device original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide.
